Two local athletes were recently honored by radio station 105.7 FM and the Maryland Army National Guard. Both were inducted into the Athlete of the Week Ring of Honor during November and received their awards before athletic contests at their schools the week before Christmas. Robert Adams Jr., a Sparrows Point High football player, also earned the title of Athlete of the Month for November after receiving the most votes in an online poll. Adams is the president of the Pointer Class of 2013 and the president of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. One of the Pointer team captains, he was an experienced offensive lineman who provided leadership and stability for the team and also played defensive line when needed.

Alison Maguire, a Patapsco High senior badminton player, is 30th academically in her class of 359 students and has taken five Advanced Placement courses as well as nine gifted-and-talented courses. Adams, shown accepting his award with Sparrows Point football coach Glenn Imirie, received a $50 gift certificate for Dick’s Sporting Goods as well as a $500 check for the Pointer football program from the National Guard for being selected Athlete of the Month. Maguire, who also received the Dick’s Sporting Goods gift certificate, is shown receiving her award with National Guardsmen Sgt. First Class Terry Possehl, left, and Sgt. Ronald Harris.
