AARP to offer free tax assistance to area residents

AARP is offering free tax service to area residents on two dates at the St. Helena Community Building, 6509 Colgate Ave.  
    Walk-in tax help is available Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
    Tax help by appointment only will be offered Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To make an appointment, call Shirley Gregory at 410-633-6077.
    There is no age requirement for this service. Households must make less than $100,000. Returns will be filed electronically, free of charge.
    Tax payers are required to bring the following documents: a copy of 2012 income tax return; W-2 forms; unemployment compensation statements; SSA-1099 form, if Social Security benefits were received; all 1099 forms showing interest and/or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets; 1099-Miscellaneous forms; 1099-R form, if pension or annuity income was received; all forms indicating federal income tax paid; dependent care provider information; all receipts or canceled checks, if itemizing deductions; social security cards and other official documentation for the tax payer and all dependents.   
    Federal and state tax returns are due no later than Friday, April 15.
