The Maryland Transportation Authority Police will join other law-enforcement agencies and the State Highway Administration Office of Traffic and Safety in renewing a pledge to save lives during the annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign, which runs through Monday, May 27.
Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective way to reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. According to figures released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, of the 21,253 vehicle occupants who were killed in motor vehicle crashes nationwide in 2011, 52 percent were not wearing safety belts.
