County schools urge student vaccination review before Aug. 26

Baltimore County Public Schools encourages parents and guardians to check their child’s immunization records with a family doctor, the Baltimore County Department of Health [BCDH] or the Maryland Department of Health and Hygiene before the new school year begins on Monday, Aug. 26.
There are no changes to state immunization requirements for the 2013-14 academic year. The second MMR and varicella vaccine required for students enrolled in kindergarten is not required for students registered in pre-k programs.
For more information about school immunization requirements, visit www.phpa.dhmh.maryland.gov/OIDEOR/IMMUN/SitePages/back-to-school-immunization-requirements.aspx.
Students may be eligible for free immunizations if they do not have health insurance or insurance for vaccines, if they have Medical Assistance and/or Maryland Children’s Health Insurance Progam insurance, or if they are of Alaskan or Native American descent.
Throughout the summer, the Eastern Family Resource Center and several Baltimore County walk-in clinics will host free immunizations for eligible students. For a complete list of participating clinics and hours of operation, call the BCDH at 410-887-2705.
