The Internal Revenue Service is offering Free File brand-name software from a consortium of 14 companies for taxpayers who earn $58,000 or less. The tax preparation software can be accessed by visiting IRS.gov/freefile<http://www.irs.gov/uac/Free-File:-Do-Your-Federal-Taxes-for-Free.
Once on the website, select “Free File Software”  and choose the software that matches your individual income tax situation. You will then be directed to the software provider’s website.
Free File is for federal returns, but most companies also offer state income tax return preparation.
For taxpayers who wish to file their returns without assistance from tax preparation software, the Free File Fillable Forms with step-by-step filing instructions are available at www.irs.gov.
The IRS also offers a range of online information for tax preparers at www.irs.gov, including
“Where’s My Refund” and YouTube videos with tax tips.
The IRS expects to issue 90 percent of refunds in fewer than 21 days. The fastest way to receive a refund is by combining IRS e-file options with direct deposit.
