Fourth annual event to feature five expert appraisers

 by Nicole Rodman

Dig out your old toys and antique furniture — Dundalk Antique Appraisal Day is back.
The fourth annual event, hosted by the St. Helena Community Association, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Helena Community Building, 6509 Colgate Avenue.
Attendees may have up to three items appraised. The cost is $20 for the first object and $10 for the second object. The third object is free.
Proceeds will go to repair the roof of the St. Helena Community Building.
Since it began in 2011, the event has been the association’s largest annual fundraiser.
Organizers are hoping that this year’s event will yield some pleasant surprises for attendees.
In 2011, a painting owned by local resident Robert Wirsing was appraised at $20,000.
Last year, a letter signed by Elvis Presley was appraised at $500 and a tea set was valued at $5,000.
This year’s event will feature five expert appraisers skilled in valuing American furniture, folk art, glassware, porcelain, silver, jewelry, coins, clocks and more.
Appraisers will include Todd Peenstra of Peenstra Antique Appraisals.             Peenstra will appraise artwork, furniture, toys and musical instruments.

Brad Dudley of B. Dudley and Son will examine military and firearms, artwork, furniture, silver, glass and toys.
Husband and wife team Fred and Maureen Winer of Parting With Possessions will offer appraisals on fine arts, toys, coins and antiques.
Gwyn Houston of The Fallston Coin and Jewelry Shop in Harford County will appraise jewelry, antiques, coins and stamp collections.
During the event, both Peenstra and Dudley will offer public appraisals similar to what is seen on the hit PBS television series Antiques Roadshow.
In addition to appraisals, the community association will sell refreshments to patrons.
No appointments are necessary. Buying or selling during the event is prohibited.
Due to insurance restrictions, participants must transport objects to the event on their own. Antique Day staff cannot handle any objects.
