First regional championship in school history

    Brittani LaFollette scored four goals as the Sparrows Point field hockey team defeated Carver A&T 5-1 on Thursday in the Class 1A South regional championship game at CCBC Dundalk.
    It was the first field hockey regional title in Sparrows Point history, and only the second regional title by a Dundalk-Edgemere high school.
    The Patapsco High field hockey team won a regional title and reached the state finals in 1978.
    Sparrows Point will play in the Class 1A state semifinals on Monday at Broadneck High School in Anne Arundel County.
    The Pointers’ opponent has yet to be determined, The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
    Ashley Struble also scored for the Pointers against Carver A&T.
    Sparrows Point reached the regional final by overcoming Loch Raven in the semifinals on Oct. 31 by a score of 2-0.
    Struble gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead in the game, and LaFollette provided an insurance goal.
    Loch Raven had knocked Sparrows Point out of the regional playoffs the previous two seasons, both times by 1-0 scores.
